Is the Kimber 2K11 COMP the best 2011?
Welcome back to Jim's Armory! I've been eager to put the Kimber 2K11 Comp through its paces. I actually have the stainless model as well, but as soon as this specific configuration came out, I had to grab one. With the March weather finally giving us a warm, sunny day, I was thrilled to get it out of the indoor bays and onto an outdoor range where we can truly see what it can do.
Here is my full breakdown of the features, the shooting experience, and whether this gun is worth your hard-earned cash.
Standout Features and Aesthetics Right out of the box, the Kimber 2K11 Comp demands attention. The slide features really nice serrations and front cuts, but the absolute star of the show is the massive port on top. It's more than just a standard port; it's a massive "chunk port" that is hollowed out inside, with the actual barrel ending just short of the slide's front edge. The fluted barrel peaking through adds a really nice aesthetic touch.
Moving down to the frame, Kimber outfitted this model with an ambi safety and a light, skeletonized trigger featuring their signature "angry face" design (It’s actually a “K” for “Kimber”). They've also updated the grip on this model and included a very "sexy" magwell that completely locks in your grip.
For my optic, I mounted my absolute favorite: the Ronin 507 Comp. This specific blacked-out edition features a dragon on one side and a stealthy blacked-out Holosun logo on the other, perfectly matching the aesthetic of the gun.
Range Performance: A Ridiculously Flat Shooter Taking this out to 25 yards, the 2K11 Comp proved exactly what it was built to do. The compensator works incredibly well, resulting in very low muzzle rise and making the gun incredibly easy to control. Because it shoots so flat, keeping the red dot in your sight picture during rapid fire is a breeze. Honestly, if I miss a small target at 25 yards with this setup, it's entirely my fault—the gun is an absolute laser.
One thing to note if you plan on running this hard: that large port throws off a lot of heat. After a string of fire, the front end gets completely smoking hot, so you will definitely feel it even if you are wearing gloves.
Value and Where It Ranks I test a lot of high-end firearms, and right now, this Kimber 2K11 Comp is easily in my top three favorite guns to shoot, sitting right alongside the Sig 211 and the Romulus. (I haven't forgotten about my Atlas, of course—I'd practically sleep with that gun under my pillow—but in its specific class, the Kimber is outstanding).
In the 2011 world, this Kimber is considered a mid-tier option, with a street value hovering right around $2,000 to $2,500. While that sounds like a significant chunk of change, for the 2011 platform, getting a gun this well-made and feature-rich for that price is actually a really good deal.
Final Thoughts The Kimber 2K11 Comp is a phenomenal, flat-shooting gun that delivers top-tier performance for a mid-tier price. If you are looking to step up your 2011 game without taking out a second mortgage, this needs to be on your radar.
